Calder Capital is thrilled to announce the successful acquisition of Champagne & Marx, Inc., an underground utility and excavation contractor based in Saginaw, Michigan, by Major Contracting of Detroit, Michigan.
Founded in 1973, Champagne & Marx is a family-owned, second-generation excavation business that offers a wide range of services, including site utilities, foundation excavation, site preparation, portable crushing, hydro-vac excavation, and landfill construction. The business, which has been operated by siblings Anne Coursey and Christine Davis since 2016, employs 75 people and has built a strong reputation in the Tri-Cities area. Ready for retirement, Anne and Christine engaged Calder Capital’s Sell-Side team.
Major Contracting, established in 1978, is a full-service infrastructure improvement company specializing in concrete paving, water main, sewer, and earthwork. Known for working with many commercial contractors and municipalities in the Metro Detroit area, Major Contracting is excited to expand its presence further north into the Saginaw/Bay City area. The management team at Champagne & Marx will remain in place to oversee operations post-acquisition, ensuring continuity for employees and clients.
Matthew Baas of Calder Capital served as the lead Mergers and Acquisitions Advisor to Champagne & Marx. The Calder Capital team sent CIMs to 87 qualified buyers and secured 4 competitive offers.
