With the successful acquisition of Elkhart, IN-based Power Manufacturing in December, the Calder Capital/SBDA team barreled through another milestone by closing record transaction #35!

Friar continued, “We are up 75% in transaction volume vs this time last year with 96% revenue growth. I feel like this is quite an accomplishment considering that industry-wide transactions are down 22% for small businesses and 13-15% for all transactions domestically and internationally.”
In terms of the types of transactions that are getting done by Calder/SBDA in 2020, manufacturing and service lead the way at 34% and 29% of deals, respectively. Distribution and restaurants have accounted for 14% of sales and construction and retail round out the bottom.

19 transactions have been in Western Michigan, 9 in out-state Michigan, and 7 in other states including Indiana, New York, Iowa, Georgia, Kansas, and Minnesota. Among the buyers, 20 have been individuals, 12 have been strategic buyers, and 3 have been private equity/investment groups.
Friar concluded, “With the election finalized and COVID vaccines on their way to market, I am very confident that 2021 will be a strong year. Based on the decline in transactions nationwide during 2020, it is clear that many sellers are on the sidelines. Many of those will come to market in 2021. Meanwhile, we are pushing hard for 40 deals yet this year and may get there by the skin of our teeth!”
