With the successful closing of Worldwide Diesel on October 8, 2021, the Calder Capital/SBDA team closed transaction #30 for 2021 and continued to march steadily forward towards breaking 2020’s sales and closings records.Â
“Despite COVID and its ensuing challenges – labor markets, supply chain, the rising cost of goods – continuing to impact M&A markets and nationwide small deal transactions remaining at multi-year lows, Calder/SBDA have continued to push forward towards breaking our records,” highlighted Max Friar, Calder’s Managing Partner.Â
Friar continued, “At Calder, we are firing on all cylinders. Revenue is up 89% versus 2020 and 13% ahead of budget. Our recurring revenue is up 168%, which indicates that our sales team is performing exceptionally well, signing on new clients at a rapid pace, which will result in more closed deals into Q4 and into Q1 2022. In fact, we engaged more clients in Q3 than any other quarter in the history of Calder.”
In terms of the types of transactions that are getting done by Calder/SBDA in 2020, service (37%), construction (23%), and manufacturing (20%) transactions lead the way with restaurant and distribution rounding out the industry list.

19 transactions have been in Michigan and one each in the following states: Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, Texas, California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Oregon, and Tennessee. Among the buyers, 17 have been individuals, 10 have been strategic buyers, and 3 have been private equity/family offices.
Friar concluded, “My prediction at this time last year was that sellers would be more aggressively coming out to market in 2021. That has not entirely been the case. I did not initially imagine that the struggles of reopening would be as intense as they have been. I feel that many owners are reaching the point of extreme burnout and I believe that buyers will have more choices heading into 2022.”
